Thinking about insulating your house? Good news — Nová zelená úsporám (NZÚ) is running again in 2025 and in some areas the conditions are even more favourable than before. Here is how much you can claim and how to do it step by step.

What is Nová zelená úsporám

Nová zelená úsporám is a grant programme of the Czech Ministry of the Environment, administered by the State Environmental Fund (SFŽP). It supports energy-saving measures, typically:

  • Insulation of external walls, roof and ceiling
  • Window and door replacement
  • Heat pump and photovoltaic installation
  • Mechanical ventilation with heat recovery

How much you can claim in 2025

The amount depends on the building type and the scope of measures. As a guide:

  • Partial insulation (e.g. facade + roof): CZK 800–1,300 / m² of insulated area
  • Comprehensive insulation with window replacement: up to CZK 1,700 / m²
  • Bonus for Karlovy Vary, Ústí and Moravian-Silesian regions: +10 %
  • NZÚ Light bonus (low-income households): up to CZK 150,000 per measure

The maximum grant for a family house typically reaches around 50 % of costs, occasionally more.

Who is eligible

  • Owner or co-owner of a family house (max. 350 m² floor area)
  • Permanently inhabited building (approval at least 2 years before the application)
  • NZÚ Light: seniors and low-income households with simplified administration

How to apply — step by step

1. Energy audit

You first need an energy assessment from a certified energy specialist. The audit determines which measures qualify and at what level.

2. Project documentation

Most measures require technical documentation — at minimum the technical solution for insulation, the facade build-up and proof of the materials used. We will prepare it for you, including all calculations.

3. Insulation works

Important: insulation must be carried out by a contractor with the relevant authorisation, and materials must hold an ETA certificate (European Technical Assessment). Our deliveries meet these requirements as standard.

4. Application via the SFŽP portal

Applications are submitted electronically at novazelenausporam.cz. You attach: energy audit, invoices and proof of payment, ownership certificate, handover protocol, photo documentation.

5. Grant payout

After approval (typically 2–4 months) the SFŽP transfers the grant directly to your account.

Common mistakes in applications

  1. Non-eligible material. Some cheap polystyrenes lack the required certification.
  2. Poorly compiled audit. The energy specialist must hold a valid authorisation.
  3. Starting works before submitting. Some procedures don't allow this — always check the application mode first.
  4. Missing in-progress photos. Document before, during and after.

Is insulation with a grant worth it?

For a 150 m² family house with standard facade and roof insulation:

  • Cost without grant: CZK 350,000–500,000
  • NZÚ grant: CZK 150,000–230,000
  • Out of pocket: CZK 200,000–300,000
  • Annual heating savings: CZK 25,000–40,000
  • Payback with grant: typically 6–9 years
